Rainbows P.A.W.S.: 2023-2024 LGBTQ+ Awards Gayla

Rainbow P.A.W.S. (Pride at Work and School) is excited to announce that we will host the 2nd Annual Awards GAYLA for our campus community! Rainbow P.A.W.S. advances the educational mission of Texas A&M University-San Antonio by cultivating a safe and accepting environment that values, celebrates, and affirms sexuality and gender variations. We strive to increase visibility and to encourage meaningful involvement of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, asexual, queer, and allied people within the campus community.This nomination form is open until March 1st. Started in 1994 by gay high school teacher Rodney Wilson of Missouri and some of his community members, LGBTQ+ History Month was founded to give LGBTQ+ kids a chance Wilson never had: to learn their history and see themselves in those who came before them. October was chosen because that was where National Coming Out Day (October 11) already fell. While this year the GAYLA will not be hosted in October, we hope that this will become a campus tradition and the event will take place in future Octobers.The Awards GAYLA aims to celebrate and honor our LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and Allies. Awards Information: Please submit your nomination to this form: https://jagsync.tamusa.edu/submitter/form/start/618985 Eligibility: Nominees must be enrolled students, faculty, staff, or alumni of Texas A&M-San Antonio that meet the specific requirements of the individual awards below. Nomination Process: Nominees can be nominated by faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The nomination form will close on March 1st. Selection Process: Winners will be selected by a Selection Committee that will review the nominations and qualify them for the selection process. Nominees and finalists will be notified. Awards GAYLA The awards presentation will take place on April 11, 2024 in the Patriot's Casa, Ceremony Room.
